Practicum IV is a direct extension of practicum III and continues to build upon the foundation of the previous practicum experiences and to focus on generalist practice. Practicum IV focuses the students’ drive towards excellence – personal, academic and professional; this will be achieved with a re-dedication and re-affirmation of social values and principles. In addition, the students will complete a research proposal which began in the previous semester as a Needs Assessment of the agency to which they have been assigned. Each agency/organization provides an educational experience that exposes the student to the range of working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. This partnership provides vital interaction designed to reinforce our students’ academic study with real life experience. It permits testing theory in practice settings and provides students with field experience that is vital for academic and professional development.
Students are required to complete 168 hours of field work each semester under the supervision of a human service professional and to attend in-house training and supervision at scheduled times with the practicum lecturer/coordinator. The in-house training/supervision will assist students in understanding how to bridge theory and practice and how to prepare reports. It will also assist students in further self-exploration and understanding how to utilise their strengths in the field.
